Architecture, Design and Heritage

My long term girlfriend is a life member of the National Trust, and as a result we often enjoy spending a weekend visiting National trust properties in the UK. Some of the properties we have visited in the past couple of years include:

  • Lyme Park
  • Gawthorpe Hall
  • Speke Hall
  • Shugborough Estate
  • Moseley Old Hall

We have also visited some privately owned properties including:

  • Beaulieu Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey and the National Motor Museum
  • Holker Hall and Motor Museum
  • Haynes Museum

I also enjoy Art Galleries and the theatre and have also visited in the past few years:

  • Manchester City Art Gallery
  • URBIS (Manchester)
  • The Lowry (Salford Quays)
  • Birmingham City Art Gallery
  • The Walker Art Gallery (Liverpool)* - My favourite gallery!
  • The Tate Liverpool
  • The Lady Lever (Liverpool) and Port Sunlight
  • The Tate Modern (London)
  • Sir John Soame's House (London)
  • The Riena Sofia (Madrid)
  • El Prado Gallery (Madrid)
  • The Royal Exchange Theatre (Manchester)* - Probably my favourite!
  • The York Theatre Royal
  • The Blackpool Grande
  • The Adelphi Theatre (Bradford)
  • The JB Priestley Centre for the Arts (Bradford)

I have not yet had time to populate this section. However just as a stop gap I will briefly list the artists, designers and architects that I most admire, but the list is not exhaustive and I am fairly open minded and receptive to new ideas:

  • Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
  • Le Corbusier
  • Hieronymus Bosch
  • Frank Lloyd Wright
  • Richard Meier
  • Edward Hopper
  • Vincent Di Fate
  • Charles & Ray Eames
  • Sir John Soames
  • Jacob Jacobson
  • Jacob Jensen
  • William Waterhouse
  • David Lewis (Bang & Olufsen)
  • Chris Bangle (BMW)
  • Tadao Ando
  • Ford Maddox Brown
  • Richard Woolley (Rover/Lead Designer Range Rover)
